This guide will walk you through how to set up a study with a Card Sort task.
When you create a new study, you can select to construct a new Card Sort Survey.
The study constructor will then be preloaded with Card Sort instruction/orientation texts for participants, as well as an Open Card Sort and a Closed Card Sort example template.
❗Card Sorts are listed as a Question Type in MUIQ (since we are not collecting time on task or task success metrics).
If you need to add another Card Sort, simply add another Question and set it to Card Sort. Note that you should only have one Card Sort per Question Grouping (i.e. survey page).
Enter an internal name for each Card Sort question. Participants will not see this, but this will keep track for analysis.
Enter the instruction text that will appear above the Card Sort for participants.
Add the cards to be sorted by participants.
If you require participants to sort a specific number of cards, you can configure this here.
Set the type of Card Sort, which determines whether participants define their own categories (Open Card Sort) or whether categories will be predefined by you (Closed Card Sort).
A Hybrid Card Sort allows you to set predefined categories while participants can also add and edit categories.
For Closed and Hybrid Card Sorts, define the categories into which participants should sort the cards.
If you require participants to sort at least one card into each category (only if there are more cards than categories available) or end up with a specific number of categories (only for Open and Hybrid Card Sorts), you can configure this here.
