This guide will walk you through your Click Test task results.
Once the study has collected responses, go to “Click Tests” via the sidebar menu.
There are three different dashboard views:
Click Maps: Shows the percentage or number of clicks for each Hotspot Region.
Heat Maps: Shows a visual representation of exactly where participants clicked.
Summary Table: Shows the total number of clicks and participants by Hotspot Region in a table.
❗Note: If you did not define any at least one Hotspot Region, the Click Map analysis will not show any clicks. Utilize the Heat Maps and Summary Table instead.
Within the Click Maps and Heat Maps dashboard, each Click Test Task will show up in an individual tab, per condition.
The task text will appear below to confirm which task you are reviewing.
Below the task text, you can select “Review Advanced Task Settings” to see any settings used during the study.
❗Note: You can only review the Advanced Settings here. In order to make any changes, please go to the task editor under Study Structure > Tasks.
Within the Sample Size dropdown, you have three options for viewing results depending on if you only want to include (1) participants “Approved for Results,” (2) all participants who completed the study, or (3) all data regardless of whether a participant completed the study (partial completes).
You can also specify whether you would like to see All Clicks, or the First Click Only from participants.
❗Note: Both options would display the same results if you designed a study allowing for only one click per participant.
You can then choose whether you would like your data displayed as an absolute Number of Clicks or a Percentage of Clicks.
❗Note: This set of options only appears for the Click Maps view.
By default, each region is counted separately in the Click Maps view. If you select “Combine Clicks Across Regions,” any region with the same description will be counted together for analysis.
If you want to combine regions, you can edit a Hotpot Region by clicking it and adjusting the Region Type and Description.
❗Note: Descriptions must match exactly in order to be counted together. In this example, every Hotspot Region must have the description “15 in quick filter” to be combined. The Region Types do not need to match to be combined.
Footnotes under the image describes/confirms the calculations used.
❗Note: results use all clicks unless “First Click Only” is selected, in which case only first clicks made by participants will be considered.
❗Note: Clicks on undefined regions are not included in the Click Maps or Heat Maps, but they are listed in the Results Table (see following steps)
You can analyze the data outside of MUIQ using the Export Click Data or Export As Image buttons. This will download your data in a CSV or PNG format, as in the examples below.
The file name of the export includes the name of the Condition, the name of the Task, as well as the click image pixel dimensions.
Each click by each participant is listed on an individual line in the export.
The data columns include:
- Participant ID – This is the unique number assigned to each participant and is used to identify them throughout all study results sections
- Click Order – This numbers each click by each participant in sequential order, e.g. the second click by the participant is labeled as “2”
- Cumulative Click Time – This is the time in seconds.milliseconds that the participant took from the beginning of the task to the click
- Clicked Hotspot ID – This is a unique number assigned to each hotspot to keep track of instances where hotspots may have similar descriptions
- Clicked Hotspot Description – This is the text description for each hotspot that can be customized in the hotspot settings in the study constructor and results dashboard
- Hotspot Region Type – This is the region type that can be customized using the dropdown selector in the hotspot settings in the study constructor and results dashboard
- Y/X Positions – These columns provide the coordinates for the click as based on pixel coordinates and on percent position. Note that the pixel coordinates range from 0 to ((total image pixel width/height) – 1).
The image exports will reflect the settings entered for the click map. For the export of the heatmap, select the Export button on the Heat Maps tab, see next step.
In the Heat Maps view, the study image shows how many participants clicked in each area of the image. Heat “spots” range from areas with few clicks (blue) to areas with the many clicks (red). Areas of color are not relative to each other.
The Summary Table view shows each Hotspot Region ID, Description, Region Type, the Total Clicks, and the Total Participants regardless of number of clicks.
If you did not use Hotspot Regions, all clicks will be counted in the last “Clicks Outside of Any Hotspot Region” row.
