Selecting the Best Recording Option for Your MUiQ Study

Modified on Fri, 7 Mar at 9:11 AM

This article will cover the various recording options in MUiQ and how to select the best one for your study.

There are two main types of recording options in MUiQ:

  1. Fully Study Recording
  2. URL Task Recordings

MUiQ also provides options like Privacy Blur and Custom Recording Options to cater to the study requirements.

You can find the study recording options by going to the Information / Settings > Recordings tab in your study.

There are three Participant Recording options:

  1. No Recordings - Prioritize privacy; ideal for attitudinal-only studies, surveys, card sorting, tree testing, and click testing.
  2. Full Study Think Aloud Recording - Comprehensive recording of the entire participant experience from start of the study to the end.
  3. URL Task Only Screen Recording-  Focuses specifically on setting up recordings for each individual task. Tasks must be enabled to activate this recording option.

No Recording

Select No Recording

The Participant Recording interface shows the No Recording option selected, indicating that no participant data such as URLs, clicks, screens, or audio will be recorded. The Screen Recording, Think Aloud Recording, and Custom options are not selected. A note under Think Aloud Recording mentions that it requires additional task instructions and may result in higher dropout rates.

Considerations

  • No behavioral insights (e.g., time on task, clicks, navigation paths).

  • Limits analysis to self-reported data.

Full Study Recording

Full Study Recording provides a comprehensive recording of participant behavior throughout the study, including pre-study questions, task navigation, and post-study feedback.

❗ Participants using:

  • Desktop (Windows, MacOS) - requires installation of MUiQ browser extension.

  • Mobile (iOS/Android) - requires installation of MUiQ survey app.

Select Full Study Think Aloud Recording (Recordings tab) within the study.

  • Optionally, enable the Webcam
  • Participants will be asked to share their screen and microphone

Considerations

  • Recording output is a single video of the entire study experience.

URL Task Only Screen Recording

Focuses specifically on participant interactions during tasks. This targeted approach can be helpful for studies where task performance is the primary focus.

Screen Recordings for All URL Tasks

Useful when observing user behavior and navigation paths on websites or prototypes, especially when task performance is key and efficient data collection is desired.

Considerations

  • Output includes a recording for each task instead of one single video of the entire study experience.

Customized by each URL Task

Allows different recordings settings for each URL Task in the Tasks tab under Study Structure.

This will enable a variety of Participant Recording options that can be specified within each Task.
