Setting Quotas in MUiQ

Modified on Fri, 28 Mar at 6:09 PM

This guide will walk you through how to set up quotas in MUiQ.

There are multiple approaches to effectively setting quotas within a study and within questions using the MUiQ platform.

There are four Quota Types:

  1. Study-Level (total participants)

  2. Question-Level (e.g., demographic screenouts)

  3. Condition quotas (assigning/screenout)

  4. Complex Quotas

Study-Level Quotas

Study-level quotas (also known as Study Completion Quotas or Max Quotas) define the maximum number of participants allowed to take an unmoderated study.

Once your study has reached a number of approved completes that matches the study-level max quota, no additional participants will be able to take the study. The study status will be set to “Stopped by Quota” at which point you can still increase the quota to set the status back to “Active” and allow more participants to take the study.

You can set study-level quotas by going to Informations/Settings > Quotas in your study.

Question-level Quotas

Question-level quotas define the total number of participants who can select a specific response option in a question. These quotas can be found in each individual question by selecting "Set Custom Quotas"

Here is an example how you would add quotas to a screener question in your Pre-Study section:

  1. Access the Pre-Study Section

  • Navigate to the Pre-Study section of your study.

  • Add a question for collecting the Age of the participant.

2. Set Custom Quotas

  • Expand the question where quotas need to be applied.

  • Check the Set Custom Quotas box.

  • Specify the maximum number of participants allowed for each answer option.

    • Example: Set a maximum quota of 10 participants for the response “Age 25–34.”

    • Once the quota is filled, additional participants selecting this response will no longer proceed through the study.

Condition-level Quotas

Condition-level quotas define how many participants are assigned to each condition in your study. This is used in between-subjects, within-subjects, and mixed-subjects study designs.

To set Condition Quotas:

  • Navigate to the Conditions tab in your study to set quotas for each condition.

  • Select "Set Quota"

  • Quotas can only be added to conditions in a Between-Subjects design where participants are just seeing one condition.

Complex Quotas

Complex quota questions allow researchers to establish quotas for custom participant profiles. These questions are hidden from participants and count participants toward a quota based on their responses to previous questions.
